Speakeasy sessions for parents and carers – The adolescent brain and risk-taking behaviour

What are Speakeasy Sessions?
Does the thought of speaking to your child or adolescent about growing up, their health, risk-taking behaviours, relationships or sexual health worry or confuse you? If so, Speakeasy sessions can help. All sessions last 90 minutes and are run online in small group sessions. These groups are kept small to allow for conversation, are relaxed, informal and allow for sharing thoughts and ideas. You can become as involved as you like or just sit and listen, your choice entirely.
Session Aim: For parents and carers to understand the changes in the
adolescent brain and how this can relate to risk taking.
At the end of this session, you will be able to:
- Reflect on the nature of risk and development
- Identify how young people’s risk-taking behaviour may be influenced by
brain development - Identify what adults can do to support young people during these changes
- Recognise risk and protective factors in a young person’s life
